Louisiana Seafood Cook-off Royalty return for team showdown

New Orleans, Louisiana – The New Orleans Wine & Food Experience (NOWFE) is excited to announce that the Louisiana Seafood Promotion & Marketing Board will present a new concept at this year’s 25th Anniversary Grand Tasting event taking place on Saturday, May 27th. In its new location at the iconic Mardi Gras World on Convention Center Blvd.  NOWFE welcomes Louisiana Seafood “Royalty” in a friendly team seafood challenge.

Chefs Blake Phillips (2016 winner), Michael Brewer (2015 winner), Cody and Samantha Carroll (2013 winners), Keith and Nealy Frentz (2012 winners), Cory Bahr (2011 winner), and Tory McPhail (2009 winner) will be divided into two teams and led by team captains and Seafood Queens Samantha and Nealy.  Both teams will be given the same seafood species to use as their main ingredient. The chefs will be sequestered, and one-by one they will be given 15 minutes to create a dish, building on the previous chef’s progress. “This secret, progressive approach will make for a good challenge for the chefs and offer the audience a glimpse into the creative-thinking, fast-paced environment chefs endure each day in their restaurants,” states Jamie Peckenpaugh, NOWFE Executive Director. “Louisiana seafood provides such beautiful flavor and presentation that pairs excellently with so many types of wine.  This competition is going to be fun for everyone.”

The purpose of Louisiana Seafood Promotion & Marketing Board is to put Louisiana seafood on as many plates as possible around the world. “It’s impossible to have any conversation about food from Louisiana without including our greatest natural resource – seafood,” states Karen J. Profita, Executive Director of the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board.  “Nearly one-third of the domestic seafood consumed in the contiguous United States is harvested fresh from Louisiana waters. Consumers should feel confident that when they are eating authentic Louisiana Seafood, they are getting the best tasting, highest quality and safest seafood available.”
