NOWFE 2017 Presents Seminars and Experiences

New Orleans, Louisiana – The New Orleans Wine & Food Experience presents its 2017 Seminar & Experiences Series as part of the 25th annual event which takes place May 25 – 28, 2017. Throughout the Memorial Day weekend event, NOWFE will feature over 1,000 vintages from over 100 wineries and food from over 75 of New Orleans’ best chefs. In addition to the Seminars and Experiences, NOWFE will host its Vintner Dinners, Royal Street Stroll, Vinola, the Big Gateaux Show and Grand Tasting.

“This year we are welcoming several Master Sommeliers from around the country, and we are featuring them in our Seminars and Experiences,” states Jamie Peckenpaugh, NOWFE Executive Director. “NOWFE is all about education, from our events to our beneficiaries, so it’s fitting to provide this opportunity to our attendees to have the intimate setting to learn as much as they can from these experts in their field.”

Au Naturale: The Natural Wine Movement ~ Friday, May 26, 2017

Join Sommelier Joe Briand of Herbsaint, Colin O’Neill of Uncorked and Catherine Markle with Faubourg Wines as they explore the natural wine movement.  While attendees are guided through a curated natural wine tasting, “The Dream Team” will discuss and identify the various flavors or “faults” that occur in natural wines making due to the lack of intervention.

Hook, Wine & Dine ~ Friday, May 26, 2017

Experience the Ultimate Sportsman's Paradise excursion that includes fishing on the bayous of Louisiana with Chef Andrew Curren and Master Sommelier Craig Collins of the Elm Restaurant Group (Austin, Texas). Your day begins early with the pickup at the Le Méridien Hotel in downtown New Orleans, where a fresh cup of coffee will be poured to properly jump start the trip, as well as snacks being provided along the way. From there it is a game of catchin' and reelin' in some of Louisiana's unique seafood courtesy of Bourgeois Charters. In the early afternoon, there is a break to rest and refresh, and at 7:00 pm you will meet up at the Press Street Gardens, where your catches of the day will be prepared for a dinner al fresco with wine pairings selected by your Master Sommelier.

Enjoy a unique tasting of coastal wines of the world paired with fresh local seafood from the Louisiana coast and beyond. Matt Lirette of Lirette Selections and Chef Daniel Causgrove of Seaworthy will lead attendees through a coast to coast pairing while discussing differences in East Coast, West Coast and Gulf Coast cuisine and the role that merrior plays in your coastal cuisine.

Lifeway Presents: Bounce Ya Brass ~ Saturday, May 27, 2017 

Join us along the iconic Mississippi River for the ultimate New Orleans workout. Lifeway presents "Bounce Ya Brass" with Move Ya Brass founder Robin Barnes and fitness instructor Shanda Domango who will teach signature NOLA bounce moves in an aerobic format. Following the funkiest workout of your life, cool down with the Soul Brass Band while learning traditional second line movements. Sommelier Brian Duncan will lead attendees through an interactive series of blind tastings to better understand the proper process and strategies needed for a successful food and wine pairing. Each guest will be given a flight of 6 wines to pair with 6 Louisiana shellfish dishes created by Dickie Brennan and Company chefs—Rene Bajeux of Palace Café and Gus Martin of Tableau. After each round, Brian and the chefs will explain their pairing strategy and attendees can compare their pairing to the professionals.
