Christy Works-Boutte is a talented artist who began painting by creating “works fromthe heart”. It is often
said that greatness is forged through adversity. Many observers and critics attribute her rapid artistic maturity to her loss of hearing at the age of one. Christy’s early determination and unwavering belief in herself has served her well. Chinchuba Institute for the Deaf in New Orleanswas her first exposure to school and art classes at the age of three. Her desire to attend a normal hearing school led her to St. Cletus, in Gretna; then on to graduating from Archbishop Blenk High School where she developed a strong artistic style. In the year 2000 she became the first deaf student to receive a Bachelor of Fine Art Degree from the world-renowned Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida. Her love of vibrant colors and ability to create harmony, using thick oil paints, has become a trademark of her works. In the “Love That…..”series, Christy states ” the heart that surrounds each piece is a symbol of my passion for art and love of the subject. It is from my heart to yours”. Being chosen by her hometown, Gretna LA, as the artist for the Gretna Heritage Festival is one of the highlights of her career. She has enjoyed creating the painting for the festival every year since 2003. Christy has been blessed with significantly increased popularity in recent years leading to the opening of her newest gallery on the world-famous Royal Street in January of 2009.
